Few things reflect the illusion of a child like the Three Kings parade. I remember going hand in hand with my mother to see the Three Kings, to get candy and to ask them to leave us the presents at night. How many times have I heard "Behave yourself, the Kings are watching you"

And every afternoon after the Parade, a hot chocolate before going to bed "because if they see you awake they won't come and you'll run out of gifts".

The best thing is that that afternoon is repeated every January 5th, it repeats itself and that illusion is still intact as when I was a child. Today I leave you my chocolate recipe so you can prepare it at home whenever you feel like it.

Ingredients:

  • 250 gr of dark chocolate – blacker story better but for me 70% is perfect. You can use it at 55% if you like it sweeter, but I love that it tastes good like chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons pure cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch
  • 450 ml milk
  • 250 ml liquid cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon soluble decaffeinated coffee (it doesn't give any coffee flavor, it just makes the chocolate flavor more intense)

To accompany whipped cream:

  • 250 ml liquid cream
  • 35 g sugar

In a medium saucepan, put the milk, sugar, cornstarch and cocoa powder and beat until combined.

Put the saucepan over medium-high heat and heat while stirring until it is completely hot.

Then add the liquid cream, instant coffee and vanilla and continue heating. Chop the chocolate and add it, and continue stirring until the chocolate melts. Remove from heat.

Whip the cream and serve with the hot chocolate

Tips and Tricks

  • To flavour you can add a little cinnamon or orange zest.
  • If you like a thicker, richer hot chocolate, you can increase the amount of cornstarch by 1 teaspoon more
  • You can prepare it ahead of time and heat it up when you are going to drink it
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Servings: 6-8 depending on cup size
